Earmark — Privacy Policy

Earmark has no accounts, no sign-up, and no server that stores anything about you. What you listen to, and where you stopped, stays on your phone.
What Earmark keeps on your device
All of it is stored locally, in the app's own storage, and never uploaded:
- Your library: file paths, book and chapter titles, durations.
- Your place in each book, saved continuously so you can resume.
- Settings: playback speed, sleep-timer preference, and similar.
- Whether the one-time unlock has been purchased.
Uninstalling Earmark deletes all of it. There is nothing to delete on our side, because there is no account and no copy anywhere else.
What leaves your device, and only when you ask
Earmark makes a network request only when you use a feature that needs one. In each case the other side receives the request itself — which normally includes your IP address — exactly as it would if you opened the same address in a browser:
- Searching LibriVox: your search words are sent to librivox.org and to archive.org, which host the recordings.
- Downloading a book or an episode: the request goes to whoever hosts that file.
- Following a podcast: the feed's own host is contacted. If you paste an Apple Podcasts link, Apple's public lookup service is asked to translate it into the real RSS address.
- The list of popular shows: a small static file is fetched
from
earmark.web.app, which runs on Google Firebase Hosting. Google logs standard web-server information such as IP address and time of request. The file is the same for everyone; nothing about you is sent to get it.
Your listening history, your positions, your file names, and the contents of your library are never sent anywhere.
Purchases
The one-time unlock is sold and processed by Google Play. Earmark never sees or handles your payment details. The app stores only a local flag saying the unlock is active; Google Play holds the purchase record, which is what "Restore purchase" reads.
Analytics, advertising, tracking
None. Earmark contains no analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no tracking of any kind. There is no profile of you to build, and nothing is sold or shared with anyone.
Permissions
- Notifications: so playback controls appear on your lock screen and in the notification shade. Decline it and playback still works.
- Files you choose: Earmark reads only the audio files and folders you pick yourself when importing.
Earmark does not request location, contacts, microphone, camera, or your phone's identifiers.
Children
Earmark is a general-audience audio player and is not directed to children under 13. It knowingly collects no personal information from anyone, at any age.
Changes
If this policy changes, the new version appears on this page with a new date above. Material changes will also be noted in the app's release notes.
